dual role strategy
the strategy of construing the affected subject participant as playing two distinct roles in a reflexive or reciprocal event; hence, it is expressed by two distinct argument phrases in a reflexive construction or a reciprocal construction. Examples: the Sa verb form ir-ben-ir [3du-shoot-3du] They shoot them / they shoot themselves / they shoot each other construes the plural participants as playing distinct roles, and thereby uses the transitive construction (They shoot them) to express either a reflexive event (They shoot themselves) or a reciprocal event (They shoot each other).
