merged argument structure strategy
a strategy found in complement clause constructions in which there is a single argument structure construction associated with the combination of the complement-taking predicate and the complement predicate. Example: French J'ai fait manger le pain par le chat I made the cat eat the bread has a single argument structure for the participants of the combined event of making eat: the causer J' I is the Subject, the causee/agent par le chat (by) the cat is an Oblique, and the patient of the eating event le pain the bread is the Object. A merged argument structure strategy is essentially a simple argument structure construction that is found with a biclausal complement clause construction, balanced or deranked. (Section 18.4.1)
